Texas Tech’s head baseball coach has received a national award.

Tim Tadlock, who is in his second year as head coach, has been named as the 2014 National College Baseball Hall of Fame Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year.

This comes as Tadlock led Tech, which is also his alma mater, to the College Baseball World Series for the first time in school history. The Red Raiders have posted a 45-19 overall record this season.

The annual award is given to the top collegiate baseball coach from any level.

Tadlock will be honored at the Hall of Fame’s annual Night of Champions celebration on Saturday, June 28th in Lubbock.

According to Texas Tech athletics, Tech’s 45 wins are its most since the 1997 season.

The Red Raiders also broke a school record with nine shutouts this season, and four of those have occurred during the NCAA Tournament.

The honor marks Tadlock’s third career National Coach of the Year honor after winning back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association championships while at Grayson County College in 1999-2000.

Second-ranked Tech will open their first-ever College World Series against second-tanked TCU at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday, June 15th at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
