One of Texas Tech’s assistant baseball coaches has been fired.

Trent Petrie was relieved of his duties as assistant coach Monday, according to head baseball coach Dan Spencer.

“Trent has been an important part of this program and we wish him and his family nothing but the best. However, I feel it is in the best interest for the Texas Tech baseball program to make this change,” Spencer elaborated.

Petrie joined as an assistant coach in 2008, focusing specifically on base runners and infielders, and also served as Tech’s recruiting coordinator.

Texas Tech athletics says that a national search for Petrie’s replacement will begin immediately.
