Texas State Fair Mascot Big Tex Burns Friday Morning

The notable mascot of the Texas State Fair is the victim of a fire Friday morning.

The metal structure of Big Tex, the 52-foot tall cowboy remained, as did some fabric that once served as the structure’s sleeves and hands.

This year’s Texas State Fair also highlighted Big Tex’s 60^th birthday, as he first greeted visitors to the fair in 1952.

The fair’s last day for 2012 is Sunday, October 21^st. No word yet on the cause of the blaze.
