The Texas Senate has confirmed a new high-ranking state officeholder.

The appointment of Texas Secretary of State John Steen by Governor Rick Perry has now been confirmed by the Texas Senate.

Steen was appointed as the 108th Texas Secretary of State on November 27th, 2012 to replace Hope Andrade.

The Texas Secretary of State acts as chief election officer, chief international protocol officer, and border commerce coordinator, and the Texas Secretary of State’s Office also maintains the state’s business and public filings.

“I want to thank the members of the Texas Senate and especially the Senate Nominations Committee for confirming my appointment,” said Steen. “I will continue to work hard every day to earn the respect, trust, and confidence of all Texans in my service to our great state.”

Steen was an attorney in private practice prior to his appointment. He was previously a commissioner with the Department of Public Safety, and before that, a commissioner with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
