This weekend, Texans can avoid paying sales tax on certain items before school starts.

Beginning Friday, Texas shoppers can stock up on many school supplies, clothing, and other items without paying state sales tax.

Most clothing and footwear priced under $100 is included in the tax-free weekend, as well as backpacks. Some other items exempted from sales tax over the weekend include baby clothes, boots, coats and wraps, work clothes and uniforms, suits and dresses, paper, composition books, pens, pencils, and much more.

This year marks the 13th annual Sales Tax Holiday, and Texas Comptroller Susan Combs estimates that shoppers statewide will save $62.1 million in state and local sales taxes this weekend.

Over the weekend, the South Plains Mall will extend their hours from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and will remain open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday.
