Law enforcement made a high number of arrests for drunk driving during a holiday in early July.

Texas DPS troopers arrested more than 1,200 people for driving while intoxicated during a nine-day special enforcement period which ran from June 30th through July 8th, and included the 4th of July holiday.

The additional patrol hours were funded by a Texas Department of Transportation grant.

1,262 people were arrested during the enforcement effort, and 361 of those were due to increased patrols.

DPS enforcement also netted nearly 13,700 speeding citations, more than 2,200 seat belt and child safety seat violations, 695 fugitive arrests, and 499 felony arrests during the nine-day period.
