The Texas Department of Public Safety announced more than $33.3 million in drugs and currency were seized along I-40 and other roadways in the Texas Panhandle during 219 traffic stops in 2014.

Troopers seized more than 4 thousand pounds of marijuana, more than 450 pounds of methamphetamine, 100 pounds of cocaine, 29 pounds of heroin, 27 pounds of hash, and more than half a pound of crack cocaine, according to a press release from the department. They also reportedly found more than $1.5 million in cash.

They also report subsequent investigations stemming from the stops led to more arrests and seizures including 5 weapons and more than $341,000.

DPS Region 5 Commander Gary Albus said the department is, “committed to combating these dangerous criminals; and in the Texas Panhandle alone, we are proud to report that troopers have taken more than two tons of drugs off Texas roadways.”
