The $380,000 project will install cable median barriers to south Loop 289 in Lubbock County between Sherman Avenue and the northbound I-27 flyover and at multiple points along US Highway 84 in Garza County.

“Cable median barriers stop vehicles from crossing the open median and prevent the worst types of crashes—mainly head-on collisions.” Said TxDOT traffic engineer George Villareal.

TxDOT does not anticipate traffic to be affected by the improvements but urge motorists to be careful in construction areas regardless.

The project is slated to begin on September 2, 2014, and is expected to be completed by October.
