The Texas Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications from organizations to participate in Summer Nutrition Programs.

The programs help feed children who do not have access to nutritious meals when school is out for the summer.

More than 18 percent of Texas households are considered food insecure, meaning not everyone in the household has consistent access to good nutrition.

Organizations partner with TDA to offer programs across the state, specifically in areas where more than 50 percent of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals during the school year.

Eligible organizations include schools, faith-based groups, nonprofit summer camps, government agencies, and other tax-exempt organizations. Each meal site must be sponsored by an organization that has a contract with TDA.

The deadline for a new sponsor to apply is April 15th, 2013.
