1. Is Tent City on the move?

City Councilman Victor Hernandez took to Facebook on Monday to discuss the situation regarding the homeless. Here is what he posted:

There seems to be an effort underway to relocate the homeless from their current location (Avenue A and Broadway) to the Buddy Holly Park area (Canyon Lake 2 and N. University). Many of the reasons why the homeless are in the downtown area is due to the close proximity of services i.e., soup kitchens, medical clinics, bus transportation, Wal-Mart, etc. Would moving them to the Buddy Holly Park area be better or worse?

The answer is obvious. It's worse. You are going to move the Tent City bums to a park? Yeah, that will end well.

2. Amazon's tablet (link)

Is the iPad killer on it's way? Probably not, but Amazon hopes so.

Amazon.com is expected to reveal its entry in the volcanic tablet computer market on Wednesday, a $250 gizmo analysts say could be the first real threat to the iPad's market domination. And even Apple appears to be getting worried.

The company has reduced orders from Taiwanese manufacturers for new Apple iPads by as much as 25 percent, according to a JPMorganChase analyst cited by Bloomberg. Other analysts cited the aggressive initial pricing of the Kindle -- the ebook reader designed by the world's largest Internet retailer -- as evidence that we can expect a similar price tag on a tablet device from the company.

Is Apple fearing Amazon? I doubt it, but I look forward to Wednesday.

3. Negative (link)

According to a new poll, 81% of Americans aren't happy with how we are being governed. It should be much higher.

Key Findings:

  • 82% of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job.
  • 69% say they have little or no confidence in the legislative branch of government, an all-time high and up from 63% in 2010.
  • 57% have little or no confidence in the federal government to solve domestic problems, exceeding the previous high of 53% recorded in 2010 and well exceeding the 43% who have little or no confidence in the government to solve international problems.
  • 53% have little or no confidence in the men and women who seek or hold elected office.
  • Americans believe, on average, that the federal government wastes 51 cents of every tax dollar, similar to a year ago, but up significantly from 46 cents a decade ago and from an average 43 cents three decades ago.
  • 49% of Americans believe the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. In 2003, less than a third (30%) believed this.
