The suspect in a night-club brawl turned homicide has surrendered himself to the Lubbock Police Department.

In the early hours of January 26, officers were dispatched to calls of a fight in progress at the Tejano 97 Night Club located at 54th and Avenue Q. A press release states officers found victim Matthew Salazar just after 1 a.m. in an unresponsive state at the bottom of a stairway on the premises.

He was transported to University Medical Center, but died from injuries he sustained in the brawl the following day.

Lubbock Police issued a warrant for Christopher Joe Trevino after a short investigation for aggravated assault. They later upped the charge to manslaughter after Salazar’s passing. The 28-year-old Trevino turned himself in on January 28 and was booked into the Lubbock County Jail.

No bond was listed as of 5 p.m. January 28.
