On Sunday, October 11, Lubbock police arrested a 16-year-old boy following a shooting that claimed the life of his father and left his mother wounded.

Lubbock police report the incident occurred just a few minutes after midnight on Sunday in the 4700 block of 43rd Street.

According to the police report, the teenager shot and killed his father and inadvertently wounded his mother when she was struck by a bullet.

The mother was taken to Covenant Medical Center where she received medical attention.

The teen, who has still not been identified, told police he took up arms because he feared for his mother's life, saying he thought his father was going to hurt her.

The man killed has been identified as 37-year-old Timothy Brian Lester.

The teen was taken to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center for processing.
