Over the weekend, Lubbock patrol officers got more than they bargained for when they stopped a stolen 1994 Ford F150 in the 1700 block of 14th Street.

A five-minute pursuit through the Overton neighborhood ensued when the driver drove away from an officer after refusing his commands.

The suspect, who has been identified as Milon Hereford (33), later crashed into a parked car in the Raider Burrito parking lot at the corner of 19th and Ave U.

When Hereford continued to ignore officer’s commands to exit the vehicle, a police K-9 unit was deployed to bite the suspect. Hereford then put the vehicle in gear, knocking the dog from the vehicle and narrowly missing several officers who were attempting to take him into custody.

Police had to discharge a taser on Hereford to apprehend him. He was booked into the Lubbock County Jail.

Hereford is being held on charges of Aggravated Assault, Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Interference with a Police Service Animal.

No officers were injured in the incident.
