The all-time record for dry weather in Lubbock was set in 1917, when the total was 8.73 inches.
Martin said the city council can amend the budget if the amount allocated for bad weather is not enough
"We certainly don’t want water running off into the street and then freezing and becoming a traffic hazard," Martin said. "That’s what it’s designed to prevent."
A freezing rain advisory remains in effect until 6pm tomorrow evening, and street crews in Lubbock are readying for the weekend forecast.
We need 14.78 inches of precipitation in December to make this a normal year.
The rainfall total for Lubbock for 2011 is still under three inches.
