Jury selection started today in the capital murder trial of Dr. Thomas Dixon.  Dixon is accused of hiring a hitman to kill Covenant Medical Center pathologist Dr. Joseph Sonnier in July 2012. Prosecutors assert that Dixon, a plastic surgeon from Amarillo, gave 52-year-old David Neal Shepard three silver bars valued at around $3,000 each to kill Dr. Joseph Sonnier III in July 2012.

Prosecutors claim that Thomas Michael Dixon, a plastic surgeon from Amarillo, paid Shepard three silver bars valued at around $3,000 each to kill Sonnier. Sonnier was dating Dixon’s ex-girlfriend.

Sonnier was found dead on July 11th at his home in the 4600 block of 21st Street. He had been shot and stabbed.
