Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia have been chosen to take part in the 2013 NCAA Soccer Championship.

Texas Tech senior goalkeeper Victoria Esson has been named as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the week for the second consecutive week.

Red Raider sophomore forward Janine Beckie and senior goalkeeper Victoria Esson helped guide the Red Raiders to two victories last weekend over Kansas and West Virginia.

Beckie and Esson helped Texas Tech to a pair of shutout victories over Arizona State and Arizona at the 2013 ‘Cats Classic in Tucson. Those victories allowed the squad to extend their winning streak to four matches.

Tech beat New Mexico 1-0 in the season opener in Albuquerque, and defeated Colorado State 6-0 at home on Sunday.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in collegiate soccer. It is presented annually each January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Tech garnered two first place votes from the league coaches and was placed second, only ranking below West Virginia.

Young helped to guide Texas A&M to a conference championship in 2010 and a Big 12 tournament championship in 2011.

He replaces Aaron Gordon, who was named as head coach of the Mississippi State soccer program in December.

The Red Raiders advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the 2012 season, and won a school record 16 matches, while going 9-1 at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
