Despite a month-to-month downward trend, The Lubbock unemployment rate rose from 5.2% in August to 6.1% in September. The Texas unemployment rate also rose to 8.3%.

"If somebody's really looking for a job, they might have to search a little bit depending on their qualifications and skills, but the fact of the matter is, there's jobs out there for folks in Lubbock Texas," Eddie said.
The number of unemployed for July of this year is only slightly higher than last months, showing 9,672 people unemployed across the Lubbock MSA, barely up from June’s 9,643.
Statewide, Texas’ unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 7.0 percent for June, up from May 2012’s 6.9 percent, and still down from June 2011’s 8.6 percent.
The hardest hit sectors in the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area are the government sector, which lost 1,500 jobs and the farming industry, which lost around 1,200 jobs.
