Friday on Lubbock's First News, Mayor Glen Robertson talked with Tom and Laura about the city council meeting that took place Thursday night, including its dramatic discourse, as well as the problems with LP&L and the Electric and Utility Board.
The scam involves a live caller telling customers they must pay over the phone the amount owed, following the under-billing issue that took place in June of this year.
Dwight McDonald, an attorney, works part time as a magistrate for the City’s Municipal Court, which the Council and City Attorney Sam Medina hold is a violation of the City Charter, which bars those employed by the City from being on the EUB.
The vehicle sustained minor damage, and the employee was not injured.
Kring mentioned that recently, a Lubbock Power and Light vehicle had been hit by gunfire with the employee inside. Kring warned that negative rhetoric against the utility can lead to those grave consequences.

Lubbock Power and Light announced on Thursday the hiring of a new executive for the municipally owned utility.
The proposed tax rate is 1.23 cents higher than last year’s rate, meaning that if the rate is ultimately approved, a Lubbock homeowner with a $100,000 home would pay another $12.30 in property taxes.
