Eddie said that the chamber would not be taking a position on the issue, but did say, "We want them to pass the budget that is the most effective budget for the county and their operations. And last year they passed the effective rate, no matter if it was done politically, it seems like this year, from what I can understand, the intent of all five commissioners were to pass the effective rate in yesterday's vote on the agenda as the effective rate. They had previously all agreed in work session that they were going to pass as effective rate. So yesterday, to me, when Chad and Jason decided to walk out it didn't allow that hand to play out."

I think it's going to be a great opportunity for the expo center to actually attract a lot of new out-of-towners to Lubbock and that's why it's going to pay back the hotel-motel tax that's going to be used to build it.
"There's a lot of things from a trade show representation that this new expo center brings to play as well. It's going to be an important addition to our community and I think it's very well needed, especially for the visitors," Eddie said.
When asked if there has been any movement lately, McBride explained that the house has passed the $17 million budget, and that now the Senate is taking up the budget. Eddie said that it seems like it's moving well through the house, and that we will see a good budget by the end of the session.
"If somebody's really looking for a job, they might have to search a little bit depending on their qualifications and skills, but the fact of the matter is, there's jobs out there for folks in Lubbock Texas," Eddie said.
"The program that Tech has developed, I really do honestly think, is a no-brainer, and I think it's one of the biggest projects that Texas Tech has had in quite some time," McBride said.
"Our role in this is to do what we can to make people understand how important small business is to our community and communities across America," Eddie explained.
