The Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year has been announced as Lubbock Coronado's own Sawyer Robertson. Not only is he Coronado's first Gatorade Texas Player of the Year, I believe he's Lubbock's first. In any sport.
Now, you'd imagine that the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year would be going to a University in Texas to play his collegiate athletics, but that is not the case...
The ceremony was attended by Coronado students, former Coronado basketball coaches Randy Dean and Layne Sheets and current Tech basketball coach Chris Beard.
"Coronado has just got amazing things going on. The faculty and staff, students. I had an opportunity to be on campus yesterday for the better part of the morning and meet and greet, and get out in the hallways, and get a feel for what's going on there. So just lots of really good, positive things going on there at Coronado," Julia said.
Hyatt was head coach for the Coronado boys soccer team when the sport transitioned to the UIL. His teams won City Championships plus had UIL Playoff appearances.
Coronado quarterback Qua Gray had 450 yards passing and six touchdowns. Dynamic do-it-all receiver Blair Conwright caught four passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns and ran another in from 62 yards.
