Swisher County Sheriff Resigns Over Sexual Harassment Claims
The Swisher County Sheriff has resigned over sexual harassment allegations, according to the Amarillo Globe News. A notice of Sheriff Emmett Benavidez’s resignation was posted Tuesday at the Swisher County Courthouse.
The county judge says 62-year-old Benavidez resigned due to a work-related harassment claim. In 2009 Benavides won a summary judgment in another sexual harassment case, and criminal charges have not been filed in the current claim. He has been involved in Swisher County law enforcement for 40 years.
