Sudan Resident Carlos Mendez Killed After Being Hit by Train

One man is dead after being hit by a train.

Carlos Mendez of Sudan was killed just after 11 a.m. Monday while riding his tractor across a railroad crossing at County Road 6500 near US 84.

The 69-year-old Mendez was crossing a railroad crossing which did not have warning lights or other warning devices, and was hit by the train which was traveling westbound.

Authorities are currently working to determine the circumstances of the crash, such as if Mendez was unable to hear the train coming, or simply tried to beat the train through the crossing.
