On the Thursday edition of the Chad Hasty Show, Steven Orr from the “West Texas Friday Night Scoreboard” show talked with Chad Hasty about his picks for the big games in high school football this week.

High school football is back in West Texas, and there are plenty of big games to kick off the new season. Orr said one of the big games to watch will be Lubbock Cooper vs. Idalou. He explained that Idalou appears to be in a rebuilding year this season, with only 10 returning lettermen and their 3rd head coach in 5 years.

Another team looking to make a comeback will be Estacado as they take on Hereford this week. Orr said Estacado had a great team last season, but unfortunately, they were plagued by multiple injuries. He said that if Estacado can avoid injuries this season, they stand to have a strong season in 2013.

Another game to watch will be Lubbock High vs. Canyon. Orr said that last year, Lubbock High made it to the playoffs for the first time since 1975, and they stand a good chance of returning to the playoffs this year as well. However, he added that Canyon still remains the favorite pick in this match up.

For Week 0, Orr picked Monterrey vs. Coronado as his game of the week. He explained that both teams have plenty of new blood and a fierce rivalry, and this game is great way to break in the new PlainsCapital Park. Monterrey and Coronado kick off tonight at 7:00 PM. Other games to watch for this week include Shallowater vs. Muleshoe, Amarillo-Caprock vs. Snyder, and Springlake-Earth vs. New Deal.
