State, Lubbock Sales Tax Revenue Increases for January
State sales tax revenue continues to climb for Texas.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced today that state sales tax revenue in January was $2 billion, up 9.5 percent compared to January 2011.
The most recent increase was led by the oil and gas-related sectors, and sizable gains were also made in the restaurants and services sectors as well.
Lubbock’s monthly sales tax payment for January 2012 is more than $5,931,000, up a modest 1.58 percent from the same period in 2011. Some other Lubbock County cities posted hefty increases for the January 2012 payment, including Slaton, which will receive just over $59,000, an almost 11 percent increase from January 2011. Shallowater posted an 18.7 percent increase from last year as well, and they will receive more than $9,100.
Ransom Canyon and Wolfforth’s monthly sales tax payment dropped from one year ago. Wolfforth will receive $29,796, an 11 percent decrease. Ransom Canyon’s payment dropped 19 percent, receiving $649 for January 2012.
Midland will receive more than $5,194,000, an 11.6 percent increase from last year, and Odessa will receive over $3,559,000, a 24.3 percent increase from 2011.
Combs said “Sales tax revenue continues to grow in almost all major economic categories and revenue has no increased for 22 consecutive months.”
