Friday on Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens, director of communications and public relations for United, and Linsey McCutchin, program specialist in communications and community relations for Lubbock ISD, discussed the Teachers on the Rise recognition program and the winners for October.

The program is an effort of Mrs. Baird's Bread, Lubbock ISD, and United Supermarkets to bring recognition to teachers in Lubbock. Students are encouraged to go online to nominate their favorite teachers. The winning teachers each month receive two $100 gift cards and the student who nominated the winning teacher receives a $50 gift card.

The teachers in the spotlight for October are Latasha Dickerson of Rise Academy, Charlotte Watson of Evans Middle School in Lubbock ISD, and Charles Tabor of Olton High School. Owens said, "We're so thrilled to be able to continue to honor great teachers in the South Plains."
