A generous anonymous donor affiliated with the Lubbock Texas Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has donated over 50,000 pounds of potatoes to the South Plains Food Bank, and now the food bank needs help sorting and distributing the gift.

Tomorrow beginning at 5pm volunteers will help sort the potatoes into family-sized bags. Volunteers from the church will be present to help sort the time-sensitive food off of 2,000 pound pallets.

South Plains Food Bank Chief Executive Officer David Weaver said of the donation “It comes at a great time, when our shelves are the most bare and when our clients usually experience high need due to their children or grandchildren being out of school for the summer.”
