An area college is offering a class teaching the basics of rifles.

South Plains College will offer the National Rifle Association Basic Rifle class on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th.

The class will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, and includes both classroom and range time.

Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling; and cleaning.

The cost of the class is $70, and includes the NRA Guide to the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, gun safety rules brochure, and the use of ear and eye protection, as well as the use of a .22 rifle and ammunition for the course.

Students must be 12 years of age or older, and must attend both parts of the course. Registration and payment in advance is required.
