South Plains College will celebrate the 25th anniversary of a notable band.

The South Plains Playboys and the Dixie Dewdrops will celebrate their silver anniversary later this month at South Plains College.

The band has been a staple of the Commercial Music Program at SPC, since Professor Joe Carr started the group in spring of 1987.

The group will perform a concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23rd in the Tom T. Hall Production Studio.

The group has performed at many venues, but Carr is most proud of the group’s performances in Bob Wills’ hometown of Turkey, Texas.

“Bob Wills Day in late April is the premier event on the Western Swing calendar,” said Carr. “Fans of this music come from all over the world to hear Wills’ style music on one weekend.”

Carr is currently compiling a list of former band members, which is now up to 135. He will also group old videos into a documentary and concert DVD, which will be available at the anniversary and reunion on March 23rd.
