A local college will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for their expansion into another South Plains city.

South Plains College Plainview Center will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for its expansion at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the campus, located at 1920 West 24th Street in Plainview.

SPC received a $475,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to support the construction of the SPC Plainview Technology Center in October 2013.

The center will provide training opportunities for workers displaced by the closing of the Cargill Meat Processing Plant in Plainview.

The Plainview Cargill plant closed in January 2013.
