The South Plains College Firefighter Academy has openings for the upcoming fall class.

The 2013-14 Basic Fire Academy class begins August 26th and ends May 7th, 2014.

SPC Fire Technology has 12 available slots for individuals interested in becoming Texas state-certified firefighters, and applications are currently being accepted to fill the next class.

The course is designed for anyone interested in a career as a firefighter in the municipal, state, or federal fire service.

It is an evening class that meets from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for both semesters.

After the completion of the academy and additional medical training, students will be eligible to test for state firefighter certification.

Application packets can be picked up at the front desk or Office 151 at the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center at 32nd Street and Avenue Q, or by downloading the information at www.southplainscollege.edu/fireacademy.

The SPC Fire Academy meets at the Lubbock Fire Department Training Academy at 1515 East Ursuline Street.
