Social media is changing the way we all engage with one another and that includes politicians and their campaigns as well. I personally am a huge fan of technology and social media and what social media brings to politics. No longer do we have to wait for news reports of what politicians say and do. With new technology and new social media platforms, politicians can deliver messages, speeches, and more directly to our phones.

As we head into Election 2016, I will be keeping tabs on which platforms candidates are using. It's not just Facebook and Twitter anymore, though those two sites are probably the most important social media platforms. Below are what I believe to be other social media apps that you should download today. The reason? More and more politicians are showing up on them giving you more access than ever before.

Facebook- The number one social media site. You probably already have this app.

Twitter- Another must-have app and every politician must be on Twitter in 2015. The good ones know how to do it right. Yes, you can tell who does it right.

Snapchat- This one may surprise you because Snapchat has been seen as the app for younger people. New research shows that Snapchat is being used by more 18-34 year olds than Twitter though. You know who has taken notice of this? Politicians including Senator Rand Paul.

Periscope- The newest app and potentially one with a huge future. With this app you are able to stream video from your phone. You will also be alerted when a friend is streaming. For instance, add Ted Cruz and when he is giving a speech, you can watch live. By the way, Twitter owns Periscope so the future is very bright for this app. I believe that streaming video will be huge going forward.

Meerkat- Another streaming app that had a huge two weeks in the spotlight but has lost some of that shine to Periscope. Still, worth a download as I believe some politicians will be using both.

Instagram- A must-have? No, but you can see pictures from campaign stops and short videos.

Vine- I put this app along with Instagram as not the most important for political followers, but still one you should have as campaigns will probably use Vine to get a message out.

Of course you don't have to use the above apps for only political reasons. In fact, I suggest you add friends and family and have fun with the above apps. While you're adding friends and politicians on the above apps, you can also follow me under the handle ChadHastyRadio or @ChadHastyRadio depending on the app. KFYO can be found on Twitter and Facebook, @KFYO.
