A group of people advocating against sexual assault and how it may be viewed by some will walk in the Depot District.

The international movement, known as SlutWalk, began following a Toronto law officer’s comment that “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized” in January of this year.

The SlutWalk group says their goal is to challenge “rape culture” and create a culture that promotes safety for all, and to focus the criminal justice system to examine the sexual attackers, rather than the victims themselves.

They define “rape culture” is teaching women how not to get raped, as compared to teaching all not to rape.

The SlutWalk Lubbock event will take place on Saturday, October 1st from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. at 19th Street and Crickets Avenue.

The organizers of the event encourage all attendees to wear whatever they feel comfortable in, as long as it is within legal boundaries.
