According to a report on EverythingLubbock.com, Mayor Glen Robertson wants the Lubbock City Council to consider renovating the Omni Building downtown. The Mayor would possibly like to see the Omni Building turned into the new City Hall. Mayor Robertson said that if the Omni Building is turned into City Hall, it could be possible to house more city departments under one roof.

"It would give us room to be able to pull Fire Marshal's in maybe, the LP&L could come into the same building with the rest of the city, if we could figure out a way to shut down some of these leased offices and get everybody in the same facility, efficiencies would go up, I think there would be some redundancies in staff that we could correct," he said.

The Mayor said it could cost between $12 and $16 million to tear the building down, or $40 million if they choose to renovate it, but said if they do choose to buy it and make it City Hall, they may not have to renovate each floor all at once.

"One of the things that I like about the opportunity is that we could go in and refurbish the floors that we need immediately, and not have to do the entire building," Mayor Robertson said.
