Over the last few years the idea of a dog park in Lubbock has been debated by citizens and elected officials. According to KLBK, over $200,000 is being budgeted in the upcoming budget for a dog park at Clapp Park.

Bridget Faulkenberry, the director of Parks and Recreation, said the project is a little more than $200,000. She said the preliminary design is 1.43 acres in Clapp Park, broken down into a .93 acre area for big dogs, and a .5 acres area for small dogs.

"It's centrally located, and there's room in that park. It's a large, regional park, and we felt that was a good place for the dog park," Faulkenberry said.

"We're going to include picnic shelters, a lot of trees for shade, water stations for dogs and humans, concrete work, you know fencing, irrigation, turf, things that would go into creating a nice dog park," Faulkenberry said.
