A Shelter In Place lockdown order was issued Thursday morning around 8 a.m. for Lubbock ISD's Bowie Elementary School, Lubbock Christian University and Lubbock Christian High School.

The order was issued because Lubbock Police were chasing after a suspect who had dropped a handgun near the vicinity of 25th Street and Chicago Avenue.

KAMC News reports a driver had crashed a vehicle into a utility pole on Chicago Avenue near 26th Street. The driver was fleeing from a police officer after the officer tried to pull the vehicle over.

Multiple suspects fled from the vehicle after it crashed and that's when the handgun was dropped.

Police recovered the handgun and arrested a suspect around 9a. After the suspect was arrested, the Shelter in Place order was lifted.

The identity of the suspect arrested has not yet been released.
