Is the government providing enough security for railroads?

During a Senate Commerce Committee hearing, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said there needs to be greater emphasis on security for the nation’s railroads.  During testimony from the administrator of the Transportation Security Agency, Hutchison suggested that sufficient resources were not being made available for railroad security, while air security it dominant.

The hearing comes after intelligence officials obtained information indicating that Al Qaeda might be targeting railroads.

“We all know that rail transportation has not been in the forefront of our transportation security efforts,” Hutchison said.  “We need to see what more we can do with the resources we have.”
