On the Friday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Senator John Cornyn talked with Chad Hasty about some upcoming legislation Congress will be looking at.

Border security and immigration continues to be a hot topic of debate in the Senate. Cornyn said he is looking at a new piece of legislation that would hopefully institute a new metric for determining how safe the borders actually are. He added that the Obama administration isn't taking border security as seriously as they should be.

There's no doubt that the borders are in a little bit better shape than they had been because of the huge investment that we've made over the last 10 years, principally during the Bush administration, for more border patrol and more infrastructure. But under the current president, he doesn't really seem like he's very interested in finishing the job. And Janet Napolitano has gone to the border and declared the border secure, which actually no one believes and the facts prove otherwise.

Cornyn said the legislation will be introduced to in the Senate next week.

Cornyn also spoke about yesterday's vote on gun control legislation. Cornyn said he was opposed to the legislation because he felt it was unnecessary and that it didn't address the the bigger issue of mental health, which should be addressed much more than gun control.
