A Wall Street Journal editor once called Senator Jim DeMint “the taxpayers greatest ally” who has saved taxpayers $17 billion.  He’s written a book called Now or Never: Saving America from Economic Collapse.

On Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, DeMint was asked how long it would take Republicans to balance the budget if they took over the White House and Congress after the November election.

“I think it would be disruptive to do it in one year, given the level of expenditure we have at the national level, without disrupting services, particularly without taking anything from those already retired,” DeMint said.  “

“I don’t think we can do that.   What we can do is show a plan and a determination to move toward a balanced budget over the next five or ten years.”

DeMint’s plan also includes a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
