A local church is holding a vigil Saturday evening in response to Friday’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Second Baptist Church will hold the vigil at 6 p.m. at their church, located at Chicago Avenue and South Loop 289.

A press release from the church says the church will host the vigil “as our community comes together to grieve the tragedy in Connecticut, in witness to God’s sorrow and promise of hope.”

The public is invited to attend the event.

Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old man, entered Sandy Hook Elementary on Friday morning and began shooting, specifically focusing on two classrooms. In the end, 27 people were killed in his rampage, which also resulted in Lanza’s own death.
