Runway at Lubbock Airport to Close for Reconstruction

One runway at Lubbock’s airport will close for reconstruction.
Runway 8/26, an east-west runway at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, will close Tuesday, November 29th for the reconstruction work.
The closure is expected to take approximately 200 days. The funds were accepted by the City Council from the Federal Aviation Administration, totaling more than $26 million.
During the construction, the north-south runway will serve commercial flights at the airport, and flight delays or cancelations may occur if winds threaten traveler safety. The City says that the east-west runway must be closed in order to complete the work.
The project is aimed to separate the two runways to comply with federal safety regulations to lessen the chance of runway incursions.
