A local organization has contributed a sizable amount of money to a program to ensure some local students will have food during spring break.

The Rotary Club of Lubbock has purchased more than $9,000 of food in support of the Frenship ISD Backpacks for Food Program.

The Backpacks for Food Program is aimed at providing backpacks that are filled with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food for students and families during spring break.

United Supermarkets began delivering the purchased food to four Frenship elementary schools and Heritage Middle School Tuesday.

Members of the Frenship High School National Honor Society and local Rotarians will fill the backpacks with the food items. The backpacks will be sent home with students on Friday, March 8th.
