A longtime college baseball umpire will be honored for his service behind the plate.

Rich Fetchiet will receive the National Collegiate Umpire Award, a lifetime excellence award given by the College Baseball Hall of Fame, located in Lubbock.

Fetchiet has umpired college baseball for 35 years and in that time, he has worked three College World Series at two levels of NCAA baseball, served as a coordinator for eight NCAA Division 1 collegiate conferences, and assignment to five major international competitions, culminating in the Olympic Games.

“Perhaps what makes this recognition so special is knowing that it comes from my friends and colleagues in college baseball umpiring,” said Fetchiet. “I am deeply grateful and appreciative of this award and look forward to the celebration in Lubbock.”

Fetchiet was selected by past and current NCAA national coordinators of umpires, regional advisers, umpire conference coordinators, and four collegiate head coaches. The award will be presented as part of the College Baseball Night of Champions on June 30th.
