*Note: Story updated with quotes from Rep. Arrington and Rep. Black

Freshman U.S. Congressman Jodey Arrington has landed his first committee assignment and it's one that could have a direct impact on Obamacare.

Rep. Arrington was one of the 22  Republican members assigned to the House Budget Committee for the 115th Congress. Arrington was the only Texas Republican named to the committee and one of only nine new members announced. Interim Chairwoman Diane Black said in a statement that the House Budget Committee will play a leading role on many issues under President Trump.

The House Budget Committee will play a leading role in the 115th Congress – on repealing Obamacare, jumpstarting our economy, getting control of our national debt, and reimagining the way we do business in Washington. I’m confident that the members of this Committee are ready to tackle these challenges head on. We represent a diverse array of experiences and backgrounds that will inform our plan to set America on a better course. Working as a team, the House Budget Committee is going to get real results for the American people.”

Rep. Arrington released a statement following the news of his appointment to the House Budget Committee saying that he will begin work immediately to "help forge a more efficient and accountable federal government".

Folks in West Texas, like all hard-working Americans, rightfully expect to have their government balance its budget and live within its means. The greatest threat to our children and grandchildren, and the long-term sustainability of American prosperity, is the national debt created by out of control government spending.

The people of District 19 place a premium on fiscal responsibility, and as such, it is my duty to represent them on this committee. I will begin working immediately to help forge a more efficient and accountable federal government – beginning with the repeal of one of its costliest and most disastrous laws: Obamacare.

Chairwoman Rep. Dianne Black noted Arrington's work in both public service and the private sector as reasons why Arrington is a good fit on the committee.

Congressman Arrington will bring both public service and private sector experience to the important work ahead at the House Budget Committee. This will be a year of action to propose pro-growth job policies, restore fiscal sanity, reform government, and strengthen our national security.

In Congressman Arrington, we have someone with a proven track record of getting things done for the American people.
