A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday for much of the South Plains and Panhandle, including Parmer, Bailey, Lamb, Cochran, Garza, and Lubbock Counties.

Saturday’s weather is expected to include sustained 20-foot winds of 20 miles per hour or greater, as well as relative humidity values of 15 percent or less, creating conditions for rapid fire growth.

The humidity in the area for Saturday is expected to stay around 10 percent, and winds are expected to be fairly steady at 25 to 30 miles per hour, with higher gusts.

Any activities involving outdoor flames or sparks are discouraged during a Red Flag Warning.

The burn ban for Lubbock County was extended by the Lubbock County Commissioners Court earlier in the week.
