Long-serving and recently retired journalism professor Robert Wernsman passed away Sunday in Lubbock after a battle with cancer.

Born in Prague, Nebraska, in 1952, Wernsman came to Texas Tech University in 1994 after spending 20 years in the newspaper business. According to a press release from Tech, Wersnman entered the university to attain a doctorate in theatre management and acting/directing, but found a calling in teaching journalism.

Funeral services will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. The college of Media and Communications will hold a memorial Thursday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m. in room 281 of the Media & Communications building.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a scholarship being established under Robert Wernsman’s name at Texas Tech.
