Friday on Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked about the vote on the debt ceiling, military benefits, and the effects of the Affordable Care Act.

Neugebauer said the vote worked to extend the debt ceiling until next year. He voted against the movement because he feels it is not correct to continue raising the limit without fixing the source of the problem.

Last week, legislation was passed that stated any retired veterans will get full, instead of reduced, benefits. However, new recruits will not be grandfathered in. Neugebauer asked, "Why would we start balancing the budget on the backs of our veterans while that's such a small portion of our budget?"
