President Barack Obama will propose new spending on clean energy in the budget he will unveil next week.  In his weekly address President Obama said he will propose doubling clean energy research and development by 2020 and implored Congress on Tuesday to approve his budget plans.

"One of the greatest challenges of our time is climate change," President Obama said.  "Over the last seven years, we’ve made historic investments in clean energy that helped private sector companies create tens of thousands of good jobs. And today, clean power from the wind or the sun is actually cheaper in many communities than dirtier, conventional power. It’s helped grow our economy and cut our total carbon pollution more than any other country on earth."

The President's budget proposals are expected to be unveiled on Tuesday to Congress.
