The multi-state Powerball jackpot has gotten larger. The jackpot is now $550 million with a chance it could increase again before tonight's drawing. Texas and New Mexico are among the 42 states that participate in Powerball. Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands also take part in Powerball.

Through 3 o'clock this afternoon, over $10,000,000 in ticket sales have been sold for tonight's drawing.

If tonight's jackpot goes unclaimed, then Saturday's drawing would be worth an estimated $900 million, according to the Texas Lottery.

Powerball is different than other lotteries because it uses two sets of balls. The first five numbers of Poweball are white numbers drawn out of a group numbered 1-59. The red 'Powerball' is drawn last and there are 35 balls, numbered 1-35.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each. If you live in Texas, ticket sales cut off at 9pm.
