Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall caused power outages across Lubbock and South Plains Monday evening.  The outages started after 5pm in Lubbock.

Before 8pm, over 150 Lubbock Power and Light customers were without power, mainly in the West Loop and Milwaukee corridors. Then, after 10:30pm, the outages were reduced to about 110 but became more widespread throughout Lubbock, particularly inside Loop 289.

Xcel Energy, and associated co-ops, across the South Plains also battled power outages.  Before 8pm, over 200 customers were without power in the Floydada and Lockney areas of Floyd County. After 10:45pm, over 479 customers in Seminole, over 50 customers in Crosbyton, and over 90 customers near Lockney, were still without power.

A set of power lines were blown over at 130th Street and Indiana Avenue in South Lubbock around 6pm.  KAMC News reports people in two cars were trapped in the vehicles.  They were unable to get away from the scene until the live power lines were cut away from the vehicles by work crews.
