A fire at Post elementary left much of the school in ruins on Sunday, September 21.

The fire reportedly started around 7 a.m. Sunday and was extinguished by volunteer fire departments from Post and other surrounding communities by 1:30 p.m.

Post ISD is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 22. Items on the agenda include considering the adoption of a state of emergency under the Texas Education Code in order to procure funding and services related to the fire; student relocation and further school closures.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The Lubbock County Office of Emergency Management will organize a school supply drive in coordination with the Garza County Office of Emergency Management with various Lubbock school districts and the New Lubbock Disaster Relief Network. School supplies as well as cash donations are accepted.
